RALLIES

A report was given by the Chairman as the group was without a rally officer. He explained that due to lockdown there were no get togethers after the Xmas temporary camp site at Easebourne School in December 2020 until Weyhill in April 2021, by which time the rally officer post was vacant.  Despite this we had had some really successful rallies especially the Hayling Island one where we had a good turnout including a number of visitors.

Burnham Copse School, Tadley field rally was a new venue which was enjoyed by all who attended.  Middle Wallop Army Air Museum was another new venue which members had liked and wanted to return to, which we would try to do for 2023.

A couple of rallies were cancelled during the year, firstly Wootey School in Alton cancelled our booking due to drainage issues which would affect any future bookings with them. Secondly, no one booked for Rodborough School so we cancelled but in its place booked Fort Widley for our Halloween night and this was a success.  In answer to a question asking why this venue had been used again after members at the last AGM had not wished to return there, the Chairman explained that the alternative would have been no rally as nothing else was available at short notice.

Looking ahead, the Chairman informed members that the next rally 10th – 12th Dec was the Xmas rally, again at Easebourne Primary School, with Kenny Weaver providing the entertainment, and again there would be a buffet. The cost was £16 pupn, singles £14pn.

The venue for the New Year rally 30th Dec – 2nd Jan had to be changed on discovering local residents used the original venue's car park at night and weekends. It would now take place at Burnham Copse School, Tadley. There would be hard standing and heated hall, entertainment by The Simpsons plus a buffet. The fixed cost for this was £48 or £42 singles, Diane was taking bookings with payment by 12 December.

In respect of the 2022 proposed rally programme, the Chairman explained that it had been put together jointly and it was hoped that the longer 4 and 5 day summer rallies would encourage higher turnout and attract visitors. There were still some TBAs on the rally sheet due to difficulty in finding suitable venues. The Easter rally at Ballard School was at also risk due to action being taken by New Forest District Council and the National Park Authority to restrict where rallies could be held.

Suggestions for venues with hard standing and halls for winter use would be welcomed.
