East Wessex Group - MCC

Our History

Formed in the early 1970's when the then 'Wessex' Group of the Motor Caravanners' Club was divided into two halves, the 'East Wessex' membership's geographical boundaries now cover all addresses that fall within the SO postcode, plus many from within the extremities of BH, SP, RG, GU and PO. (Excluding the Isle of Wight which has its own dedicated group)

In 1990, during the FICC International Rally at Shepton Mallett, members of the group built a close friendship with those of the Deutches Camping Club's - Rally Freundes Koln which gave rise to two further joint rallies in Winchester and Bournemouth, culminating in the 'twinning' of the two clubs - the first MCC group to do so! The relationship endures to this day, as members of both clubs still 'share the odd glass of wine or beer'.

Motor caravanning is looked upon by many in the UK as a 'seasonal' pastime but this need not be the case. Most of our 'out of season' rallies take place on 'hard standing' in schools - or similar - during which we have access to the host's facilities such as heated assembly halls, toilets, kitchens, etc. to allow us to 'get together' for an afternoon's and/or evenings entertainment. This might take the form of our own 'in house' disco or karaoke or, on many occasions - especially Bank Holiday and New Year rallies - really good professional entertainment.

In general terms, our weekend rallies tend to take place within our geographical boundaries but have been known to 'fall outside'. Where possible our Rally Officer tries to avoid Commercial Sites and to book venues to coincide with - and near to - Local Events so that you have the freedom to choose whether just to enjoy a simple, relaxing weekend away from home or to take a more active part!

All members of the Club are expected to follow a 'general' Code of Conduct but it's worth noting that each Group within the Club is autonomous, having it's own committee and it's own way of doing things provided that what they do decide falls within the parameters laid out by Club.
